Demanding structural modifications in a 1700’s home.

Our scope was a first floor and third floor remodel, to include a new kitchen, altering the layout of the first floor, modifying the structure to install a 10’ window, and preserving as many historical elements as possible.

The clients opted to work with us for our expertise in older Philly homes - apart from the usual structural modifications, there was one extremely complicated element. We were tasked with removing the lower portion of a 250 year old, two-story fireplace that was integrated into the original back wall.

Once the structural work was safely done, we rebuild and reconfigured the existing kitchen, removed walls throughout the lower level, refinished the original heart pine flooring, exposed brick, removed knob + tube, built custom cabinetry, and even cast plaster molding in-situ using historical recipes and methods to match the existing profiles. Here’s a video of us learning the craft.
